BIOGRAPHY

Nate Metheny was trained in classical violoncello performance and attended Indiana University for solo performance studies. Nate has been using computers since the age of 5 and has held full-time positions in Information Technology since the age of 16 after his early graduation from high school at age 15. Nate has worked on the computing infrastructure at the Santa Fe Institute since 2004 and prior to that worked for several start-up companies in and around the Santa Fe area since his move back to New Mexico in 1998.

Nate has 15+ years experience in the Information Technology arena. During that time, his interests have spanned multiple areas, including gaming, networking, security, the evolution of the Internet and especially gadgets.

Director of Information Technology at a non-profit 501-c-(3) scientific research institution focusing on multidisciplinary approaches to natural and artificial complex systems.

Managed a signifcant annual budget, technological needs analysis, senior-level systems administration (Gentoo Linux, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, Win*, OS X 10.2+) and technical support for both staff and reserachers on and off-site.

Supervisory responsibilities and task assignment/management for full-time staff members.

Handled purchasing of new equipment, as well as overseeing installation of new printing, copying and scanning facilities on-site. Handled upgrades and new installation of networking hardware, implemented network security and improved overall network infrastructure. Scheduled LAN/WAN upgrades and downtime according to research and operational schedules.

Managed 24x7x365 system monitoring and notification tools, as well as a full fiber backbone network with 100+ workstations, laptops, servers, and network-capable equipment.
